Mercedes took the SL as base for the new car and removed the folding roof, windshield and all windows, redesigned the body and added some completely unexpected details.
Mercedes-AMG has created one of its strangest and most daring cars ever. Although the concept was presented, serial production was also announced, so this is not a typical “studio overkill” but a car that, with very minor changes, will really end up in the hands of wealthy buyers.
The car is actually a kind of unusual Speedster. There is no roof, no windshield, no side windows, but unlike typical cars of this concept, it has the Halo system from Formula 1. It is the structure on the front part of the Formula 1 cabin that protects drivers in the event of a rollover and from blows to the helmet from the front in the event of an accident.
Halo was introduced a few years ago in all Formula 1 cars, and now it has apparently found its way into the road car, provided it remains in the production model. In order for the passenger and driver in this car to remain maximally protected, it comes with two aerodynamically optimized helmets.
Mercedes hasn’t released too many details yet, as well as performance, powertrain or pricing data, but we’re sure they’ll be astronomical. Unfortunately, the PureSpeed will be limited to only 250 copies.
